Hi everyone,

After coming to see *House I Live In *at the Art tonight (or tomorrow), I
hope you'll come out next week to see some of the movies at our February
Docs Fest (Feb 10-14).

The Art Theater Co-Op, the first cooperatively-owned art-house cinema in
the country, will highlight images of resistance, power, and the strength
of the human spirit during its February Documentary Film Festival. Far from
the conceptions of documentary film as yawn-inducing reels of endless
talking heads, the 5 films the Art Theater Co-op is showing are
electrifying, intense, and acclaimed accounts of race, crime, artistry,
environmentalism, addiction, and activism. These films—*How to Survive a
Plague, Chasing Ice, The Central Park Five, Bill W.,* and *Searching for
Sugar Man*—will run from February 10th -14th and feature two Oscar
nominees, a return engagement, and a broad mix of styles.

Of particular interest to CUCPJ, the IMC, and other local activists are *The
Central Park Five*, Ken Burns's fiery and horrifying new documentary about
an infamous case of racism and the criminal justice system in the NYC in
the 1980s, and the Oscar-nominated film *How to Survive a Plague*, which
looks at some of the most dynamic movement organizing in contemporary
history: ACT-UP and the AIDS activists in the 1980s.

Please forward this message and let everyone know about this special,
challenging week of films!
