[IMC] Happy New Year! Urbana Arts Grants Applications due January 16, 2013 by 5:00 PM

Please consider applying for a public arts grant through the City of
Urbana. Apps are simple and due Jan 16th.

They tend to fund innovative projects that have public benefit in Urbana in
the $500-4000 range.  I think they will fund stipends for people, space,
and expendable materials (paint, wood) but not equipment that will be used
past the grant (digital recorders).

As finance committee chair for the UCIMC and I long time grant writer, I
would be happy to review your proposal for you and provide a letter of
support, as long as you get it to me THIS WEEKEND.  Space at the IMC should
be budgeted for $30/hr for members $40/non members.  The IMC is happy to
consider additional ways to partner.

This month on *ArtNow!:* Meet the Champaign Movie Makers - local movie
makers, at all levels of expertise, who have a place to meet together
monthly, making films of any length. screening films and works-in-progress,
and helping each other out. Group founder Johnny Robinson, current managing
leader Thomas Nicol , and screenwriter and actor Bill Kephart discuss how
films shaped by and reflecting our people and towns are being made and
screened all around us; learn about past and present projects and
opportunities for local would-be auteurs to immerse themselves in the
rapidly-changing world of independent movie making. Open to all, the
group’s latest collaborative project, The Famine, showcases the skills and
talents of many of the members of this great local resource for independent
filmmakers. *Art Now!* is a half-hour TV show produced by the Urbana Public
Arts Commission and UPTV that features a new local artist every month.
Episodes air Mondays at 6:30 pm and Tuesdays at 11:00 pm on UPTV channel 6,

This is the last month to see the work of our current Artist of the
Corridor, William Lawrence Deverell. His drawings are on display in the
City building lobby at 400 S Vine Street through January 31, 2013. Because
he is colorblind, Deverell prefers to work in black and white using ink and
pencil with great attention to detail. Through his work, the artist
expresses his great interest in grand architecture, intricate forms, and
dramatic light and shadow.
