Families Deliver Father's Day Message

On Friday, June 14th at 11:30 AM, families from the 15th Congressional district 
will deliver an oversized "Father's Day" card to Congressman Rodney Davis (R-15th
District) calling on him to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR). The 
Father's Day card will be delivered to the Champaign field office of Representative
Davis at 2004 Fox Drive in Champaign and will emphasize the need to "Keep our Families
Together".
"Too many families are being torn apart each day that immigration reform is not 
passed," explained C-U Immigration Forum member Lorenzo Macedo. "Over 1,100 families
continue to be separated each day and here in Illinois 56,108 children have lost
 a parent due to deportations. Father's Day is a time when we celebrate the important
role that fathers play in the lives of our children. We are encouraging Congressman
Davis to join us in ending this tragedy by supporting comprehensive immigration 
reform."
This week the US Senate has begun debating comprehensive immigration reform legislation
that would provide a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented residents.
 A final vote on the legislation is expected to take place before July 4th. If passed
the House is expected to vote on legislation later this summer or early fall.
The event is being organized by the Champaign-Urbana Immigration Forum which supports
passage of a comprehensive immigration reform measure by congress. The Champaign-Urbana
Immigration Forum is a group of immigrants, students, clergy, service providers,
 labor union representatives, residents and community organizations concerned about
the progress and plight of immigrants in the Champaign County community works to:

* celebrate the diversity and culture that      immigrants contribute to our community;
* educate the public about issues that affect      local immigrant communities;
* advocate for the rights of immigrants      and encourage their full participation
in civic, cultural, social and      political life in our community;
* promote permanent and positive changes      that will improve the quality of life
for immigrants in our community; and
* organize for policies that lead to just      and humane treatment to all immigrants
that are part of our community.
