Jazz Talks:
A new series offered by C4A

Deep Roots of Jazz Traditions in Urbana-Champaign. 6:00 to 7:30 PM, Nov. 23, Iron
Post, Urbana.

Join Morgan Powell, Shab Wirtel, and Gary Peyton for a fascinating evening of stories
about jazz in CU during the early 60s, when this trio of classmates from North Texas
State University came to town and quickly became part of the active local jazz scene.

ISU and C4A faculty member and local musician, Tom Faux, will emcee the program.
  There will be opportunity for open discussion as the three friends share their
 memories and maybe a bit of music too.

There is a $10 cover charge, with all proceeds benefiting C4A.

to 9:00 PM at Sylvia's Irish Inn; 312 West Green Street, Urbana.

Auditorium had standing room only as the costumed musicians presented their program
to an enthusiastic audience.

MEET SOME OF C4A'S STUDENTS:
C4A Well-Represented at IMEA and IOTFA competitions
The next Illinois Music Educators' Association conference will include many C4A-related
performers.  Students are selected by audition and have the opportunity to perform
in a festival orchestra with other players from the area.

member, Colin Jung, performing at the IOTFA State Fiddle Contest in Effingham on
 October 20, while C4A faculty accompanist, Tom Faux and the contest emcee look 
on. Colin prevailed in a rare playoff, and was awarded 3rd place in the beginner
 division (up to age 10). Bow-Dacious member Stella Faux was awarded 2nd place in
the youth division (age 11-16) and C4A director Robin Kearton placed 3rd in the 
open division (age 17-69).
