Jessica Lewis Watson is an author, photographer and lecturer whose
scholarly book of Literary Criticism, *Bastardy as a Gifted Status in
Chaucer and Malory*, has been enjoyed by Medievalists around the world. In
addition to her books, Jessica has published articles and photographs in
such popular magazines as, *Writer's Digest, Log Home Living, Backpacker,
Diversion, Mushing Magazine, Good Dog!, Health Foods Business,
Guideposts,* *Smile
Politely*, and many more. This photography exhibit, *Refreshingly Fifty*,
is a celebration of her art, and a Birthday party June 16, 2014, to honor
her Fiftieth Birthday.

Jessica became interested in photography while illustrating her magazine
articles, and is a self-taught photographer. Having been a professional
arts Community Liaison for Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, as well
as a beginning Modern Ballet teacher with an *Attestation* in *Danse
Contemporaine* from the *Centre de Danse du Marai*s in Paris, France,
Jessica feels that her photographs, even her still life works, are infused
with the spirit of movement and music. While her photography reflects the
living world she sees around her, she also finds herself reflecting on life
while she holds her camera. Jessica feels that the arts exist to connect
people positively to one another and to the beauty in the world. Her hope
is to put happy energy into the world through sharing her art with people
of all ages. She displays her work to light up the world, and to bring
forth joy in viewers. Some of her photography subject matters are still
life, landscapes, gardens, dogs, and other animals.

Jessica is indeed an interdisciplinary artist and scholar (holding a BA
with Distinction in English from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign; an MA in English Literature from Baylor University; an
*attestation* in *Danse Moderne* from the *Centre de Danse du Marais* in
Paris; and a *diplome* in American Language and Literature from the
University of Liege, Belgium). Galleries that have hosted her exhibitions
include Indigo, The Institute 4 Creativity, and Springer Cultural Center,
and her work has been included in countless other benefits and venues.

With all of her activities in writing, photography and lecturing, Watson
enjoys promoting her agenda of advocating for people with mental illnesses
like herself. She is pleased to be able to use her knowledge, skills, and
recognition to promote understanding and anti-stigma for people with mental
illnesses. Therefore 50% of all photography sales proceeds from this
*Refreshingly
Fifty* exhibition will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of
Champaign County. The entire exhibit, including her June 16, 2014 Fiftieth
Birthday Party, is free and open to the public.
