 Please review the information shown below and act accordingly.  Keep in
mind that AmeriCorps NCCC and AmeriCorps VISTA members are already
prohibited from text messaging while driving as they are covered by the
federal government for workers’ compensation claims.

Dear Colleagues:

Per Executive Order (EO) 13513 (
http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/pdf/E9-24203.pdf), Corporation grantees,
project sponsors and sites are encouraged to adopt and enforce policies that
ban text messaging while driving company-owned or -rented vehicles, or while
driving when on official Government business, or when performing any work
for or on behalf of the Government.  Please read the linked EO.

Grantees and sponsors are also encouraged to take appropriate action within
the scope of their existing programs to further the policies of this EO and
to implement Section 2 of this EO. This includes, but is not limited to,
considering new rules and programs; reevaluating existing programs to
prohibit text messaging while driving; and conducting education, awareness,
and other outreach for Federal employees about the safety risks associated
with texting while driving. These initiatives should encourage voluntary
compliance with the agency’s text messaging policy while off-duty.

In accordance with EO 13513, AmeriCorps NCCC and AmeriCorps VISTA members
are prohibited from text messaging while driving as they are covered by the
federal government for workers’ compensation claims.
