Minutes from Mon, Feb 27 Outreach committee

turnout was smallish, about 8 people.
Rachel volunteered to chair, Mike to take these notes since he had only
laptop. The agenda can be inferred from the notes.

1. Arts Underground report from Rachel
new people came to GA maybe for arts, enthusiasm for future events
Pam- may not need arts-GA conjunction, could avoid location switching for GA
Ya'acov - lots of work, a need a bigger team, ad hoc committee
Rachel said it wasn't too hard because so many people helped
Rachel announced a Sat. Midwest Zine day with an Occupy table available
Rachel will write something for forum

1B: Rachel suggests *activist training sessions* dealing with canvassing,
internet use, unions, FOIA,
Ya'acov suggests speaking preparation sessions
Pam suggests teach-ins especially on history
Best time: some Sunday maybe 11-4 pm

2. FlexNGate
Mike urges turnout for Sat. 1pm Mar. 10 worker speak-out, encourages nearby
street corner event
rally planned for Mar. 13 needs details still
leaflets will be ready for GA

3. Jail Construction
Pam- has list of people interested in working on this
Eleanor noted that not much was said about the sales tax at the Board
meeting, we need more info
Rachel has documents with useful info on history of plans, taxes. will
probably put info on history of funding on forum
Mike reiterated a proposal to spring pre-trial prisoners via ankle
bracelets, same for many post-trial prisoners once (if?) Naomi Jakobsson
and Mike Frerichs push through enabling legislation. The notes get fuzzy at
this point because the note-taker went into a protracted emotional rant
about taking practical steps to quickly reduce the number of prisoners.

Sandra- proposes we take a survey on attitudes toward $ for services vs.
jail construction
somebody says Mark E. has info on what's up w . community re this issue

4. UPTV is offering a show, may be a decent viewership.
Pam will talk with Jake from UPTV re arrangements. We will need some
people to do this!

5. brief items:
Colan is preparing to turn in move-to-amend township petitions to Champaign.
Rachel reports that Susan is looking into outreach to nursing homes,
schools, churches

no new info on St. Louis meeting, - possible subcommittee at GA

Pam- recommended PI article on union forming
first occupy column for PI may be on ArtsUnderground

Most of the old flyers were distributed. possible destinations mentioned
included Democratic headquarters, laundromats, Douglas library, downtowns,
Parkland,

these notes were briefly lost but rescued thanks to Rachel's knowledge of
command-Z

There was some inconclusive discussion as to whether flyers are best handed
to people, with eye-contact, or distributed to be picked up from sites such
as laundromats.

Any items I missed can be filled in by other participants.
