Join us June 28-July 1 for Socialism 2012.

Each summer the Urbana-Champaign members of the ISO and their allies in
struggle travel to Chicago for a great radical and activist conference:
Socialism.

In the year since Socialism 2011, we have see an international struggle to
save Troy Davis from execution, a global Occupy movement against the greed
of the 1%, a national fight for justice for Trayvon Martin, and many other
struggles, large and small. The ISO has fought side-by-side with in these
many struggles, celebrating our victories, and recommitting ourselves to
fight in the face of defeat. In addition, the ISO has held meetings and
educationals designed to bring out the politics of the unjust system we
live in, create a space for radicals to discuss alternatives to corporate
greed, and present what we think are winning strategies and tactics to
reshape the world to meet human need. If we are to change the world, we
need action informed by ideas grounded in theory and tested in the struggle.

And we know radicals like a bit of music and laughter with their politics.
Whether at movie nights, barbecues, or the (now annual) The People Speak
events, we have enjoyed standing shoulder-to-shoulder with you, while
holding a beverage rather than a picket sign.

The annual Socialism conference, held in Chicago, combines action, theory,
and entertain with activists and authors from around the world. As the
conference
website <http://www.socialismconference.org/info>describes the event:

“A GLOBAL rebellion of the oppressed against the oppressor, the exploited
against the exploiter.” That's how the African American revolutionary
Malcolm X characterized the international scene in 1965. But the
description seems even more apt today.
After years of devastation in the clutches of the Great Recession, masses
of people are discovering their own power to change the world. The Arab
Spring has given birth to a global movement of Occupiers that has revived
the politics of class struggle and revolution for the 21st century. Instead
of the cutbacks, unemployment and repression that our rulers offer us,
solidarity in struggle shows that “another world is possible.”
Each year, the Socialism conference brings together more than 1,500
scholars and activists from around the country to learn OUR history of
class struggle and debate strategies for building a better world. Don't
miss this chance to meet hundreds of others like you: committed fighters
against a system of greed, racism, war, and oppression."

The Urbana-Champaign branch of the ISO is inviting you to join us as we
travel to Chicago to attend Socialism 2012.
While we are there, we will add our experiences to those of activists from
around the country and the world, to help get a clearer picture of the
shape of the global fightback, and learn valuable strategies that we can
bring back to our local struggles.

Please email or call us for more information on rides and rooms (we will
car pool and we have a block of rooms to share), or more information about
the conference itself.

You can register, find videos of sessions from Socialism 2011, and see the
list of presentations at the conference website:

We hope you will join us at Socialism 2012
