[OccupyCU] this Saturday's Occupy The Air

Sean--

I've heard Occupy the Air, both in its original three-hour form and in the more recent truncated version, and I agree on the importance of letting local listeners know why the Occupy movement happened - and why it's still important. The program's weekly occurrence has the good effect of putting the movement into an updated context of current events and raising new topics that would still interest folks from Occupy.

I also think the discussion format is worthwhile - better on the radio (as opposed to a lecture) than straight exposition. The three regulars from UPTV's News from Neptune (CGE, David Green, Ron Szoke), along with some of our occasional participants, would be willing to add to the discussion on OTA as needed. With adequate warning, we should be able to produce two or more hosts/discussants for any weekend when you're away - and at least one to help out any weekend when you're in town - for live discussion and open call-ins.

Perhaps it would be best to try one of these options as you wish, depending on your schedule. I'm not sure that I'd like to add an off-air rehearsal, though. If you want an idea of what we've been doing in a somewhat similar format, see the YouTube recordings of our recent shows, e.g.

<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWiZqKWFtvU&feature=relmfu>: and

Additional elements for upcoming shows might include

(1) summaries of the ongoing discussions from the recent Monday night meetings of the local Occupy group (I'm glad to see that minutes are being taken and circulated); and

(2) readings and discussions from some of the initial statements about OWS: I think particularly of

~ (a) Slavoj Zizek's talk <http://www.imposemagazine.com/bytes/slavoj-zizek-at-occupy-wall-street-transcript> (cf. <http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2012/apr/24/occupy-wall-street-what-is-to-be-done-next>); and

~ (b) Noam Chomsky's interviews, collected in "Occupy (Occupied Media Pamphlet Series)," Zuccotti Park Press, 2012.

Let me know what you'd like us to do in the coming weeks to help.

Regards, Carl

In this case, I would like to be able to have 1 or more guests join me in studio from time to time, or possibly on a more regular basis, to have live discussion and open call-ins.
