[OccupyCU] [Peace-discuss] Organize!

Wayne,

Do we know beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman didn't approach Trayvon with his gun out and Trayvon got the best of him? Seems Martin was found guilty of attempted murder but was unable to plea self defense as he's dead and the only witness that knows what happened is the one that shot him.

I don't know that this has anything to do with Occupy other than it is a large list of people that are interested in justice. It's not as if people are using this event to further the Occupy movement.

While I can't disagree with the verdict on a legal stance, I can still feel outraged at the lack of justice in this case from day one. The injustice that Zimmerman's word was just taken at face value that evening without a thorough investigation and then promptly let go without charges is very troubling. To think Trayvon would have been afforded the same luxuries had Zimmerman approached him with a gun and Martin ended killing him would suggest we live in a utopian justice system.

I'll continue to be confused as to why you remain on these lists though your only contribution seems to consistently be to troll and derail any efforts to organize.

In other words, in all of my experience you have been unable to actually attend any organizing that would even happen in this town. Why you remain on this list though your behavior has been anything but productive, cooperative, or any of the values that I would think would be most important to the health of the list is beyond my comprehension.

I've contacted a number of African-American led organizations in town and can't seem to tell if something is already in the works. Either way, I'm happy to help try and get the word out and then redirect if need be.

>> "George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, igniting a national debate on racial profiling and civil rights, was found not guilty late Saturday night of second-degree murder." We will stand together in Champaign-Urbana to demand accountability, to stand against racial injustice, and to protest the verdict that proved the injustice of the system. We stand with Trayvon’s family and we know that we are called to act---to fight for civil rights and for the removal of Stand Your Ground laws in every state, and we will not rest until racial profiling in all its forms is outlawed. Today we mourn, but tomorrow we organize. #blacklivesmatter
