WRFU Automatons and Techies:

There are a number of issues that need to be resolved/fixed concerning the
studio computer (in the studio) and the automation computer (SW corner of
production room).

   1. The studio computer is flashing a notice that its Windows XP is not
an authorized copy and that no further updates to the operating system will
be provided. I don't understand this as we have been using this machine for
almost a year now with no complaints about its copy of Windows XP..
   2. The studio computer has two logons: "WRFU" and "Automation." The
former doesn't require a password; the latter does and leads people to
believe that this machine is being used for the automation system (it is
not). I believe that the "Automation" logon should be removed.
   3. I believe that the studio computer already has access to the iTunes
library on the automation machine. But I am not sure if the ZaraRadio
software on the studio computer has access to all the sounds files on the
automation computer. Joe Futrelle was working on a synchronization solution
to this, but I don't think it is currently working. The idea is for air
shifters to have access to all music files, station IDs, show promos, PSAs,
etc. on the automation machine and to be able to play them using ZaraRadio
   on the studio computer.
   4. There should be a way for files on "Rosa" (the production computer)
to be put on the automation computer. I think this was possible in the past,
but don't know if the two computers are connected now. This needs to be
checked and instructions given to production people how to get the files
   over the automation computer.
   5. The automation computer clocks keeps running fast and doesn't seem
to synchronize as it should. I have set this machine to synchronize with
"Internet Time" using the Date and Time control panel, but it seems to
synchronize automatically only every week or so and I see no way to make it
synchronize more frequently. This morning I saw that the system clocked had
crept ahead about two minutes, screwing up the timing of our automated
station IDs and such (and they say that "timing is everything"!).

I think I know what has to be done as outlined above, but I am not able to
do it all myself and I'd rather have someone who is an official computer
geek do this stuff or help me do it. Any takers? I can drop by the station
just about anytime this coming week.
