Andrew had a conversation with Mike concerning this at the end of last September.  It was supposedly resolved.  And has now occured again. Mike was very cooperative, was Andrew's comment, and no suspension was mentioned.  Andrew was the last person to discuss this with Mike though, and we should probably have input from him before any of us ventures to have a conversation with Mike.  Mike is best reached by phone and I do have his phone number.
At this point we may be looking at some sort of consequences.

There is no leveling beyond whatever compression is created by the transmitter.  I recall, in one Tech conservation, that we discussed the relative merits of iTunes leveling (boosts quiet items more than it tames loud items) versus a dedicated, outboard limiter at the end of the audio signal chain (which would cost more but prevents audio clipping before transmitting).  I know we are on a small budget, but I would add that the limiter is preferable because, if set properly, it also only engages when something is too loud; otherwise it leaves quiet material relatively unaffected, beyond a little gain boost.

In this case, however, the issue was the volume of the speakers, not the automation channel.  Generally, the automation fader is in safe territory when set to somewhere between -3 and -6dB (below the grey zero line).

I noticed that it was barely audible when we (radio triple R) left at 9pm and actually thought about going back in and turning it up just a little.

Is some of the streaming audio louder than other bits, or it is all equalized in some way?

The turntable in the studio is now connected to the board (second line, channel 1); the speakers were very loud when I went in today, shortly after 12 noon.  As there aren't any shows listed on the web schedule for Tuesday morning or log entries, this must have been loud since late last night.
