Subject: Documentary Screening on Friday
Date: Tue, 1 Mar 2005 00:15:51 -0600

Hello everyone. A few students in EPS have come together to organize the
screening of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", an exhilarating record of
the April 2002 coup that briefly ousted from power Venezuelan President Hugo
Chavez. You can find a synopsis of this brilliant film below.

****
The documentary screening is open to all and will take place in ROOM 2,
EDUCATION BUILDING on FRIDAY, MARCH 4, at 7 PM.

Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's left-wing president, was elected by a landslide in
1998. Chavez is a colorful, unpredictable folk hero, beloved by his nation's
working class and a tough, quixotic opponent to the power structure that would
see him deposed. This concise, riveting documentary is a first-hand view of the
short-lived coup d'=E9tat that failed to topple Hugo Chavez. Two independent
filmmakers were inside the presidential palace on April 11, 2002, when he was
forcibly removed from office. They were also present 48 hours later when,
remarkably, he returned to power. More than a scary close-up look at the raw
mechanics of the right-wing coup, the film is a cautionary examination of the
use of television to deceive and manipulate the public. The coup lasted 48
hours, until a popular uprising forced the government out of office.
