Reclaim the Streets Lawrence, KS
Last Friday 2-300 people reclaimed Lawrence's busiest downtown street and 
had a party. The Party started under a giant Elm tree sitting on private 
property slated to become Lawrence's next stripmall. Soon, the Critical 
Mass bike parade and a mysterious looking rented truck came to the tree. 
Hundreds took to the street eagerly toward the "secret destination."
A few blocks away the rented truck stopped and couches flew out the back. 
People quickly formed a couch barricade across Mass. St. People made 
another couch barricade at the other end of the block, and effectively 
liberated a street lined with corporate retail stores. A banner dropped 
over American Eagle Outfitters reading "A new reality is better than a new 
product." Sidewalk chalk covered the ground and balloons filled the sky. 
People wore face paint and came in costume. People danced, made new 
friends, played instruments, did some radical cheers, blew fire, and 
enjoyed the feeling of freedom for over three hours.
