ALT Flicks presents "Smoke Signals"
Sunday, January 11 at 2pm
Urbana Free Library Auditorium

The Urbana Free Library film series, Alt Flicks opens its 2009 season
this Sunday with the award-winning film "Smoke Signals," an independent
film based on Sherman Alexie's novel The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight
in Heaven. "Smoke Signals" has the distinction of being written,
directed, acted, and produced entirely by Native Americans. The film
is cosponsored by the University of Illinois Native American House, and
will be introduced by Debbie Reese, a a member of the Nambe Pueblo and
an Assistant Professor in the University of Illinois' American Indian
Studies program.

The Urbana Free Library's Alt Flicks series shows features independent and
foreign films which are shown the second Sunday of every month. Upcoming
films include "Basquiat" on February 8th and "Il Postino" on March 8.
