Dan,

I have an immediate reply from my SF smokefree friend, about hookas!
I want to post it to the group, but I am too lazy and tired to look
up an earlier e-mail from you that gave the dope on that. By the way,
Bob has a lot more in this e-mail, but I think we get enough as it
is. Anyway, here it is:

The Hooka Hoax

Hooka bars are the latest tobacco industry scam to try to delay
implementation of total smoking bans in all public places. The tactics
are nothing new. The industry claims there have not been sufficient
studies to prove that natural tobacco is as harmful as major American
brands. They made similar claims about light cigarettes, secondhand
smoke, filter cigarettes, etc. Hooka bars are the latest attempt to
promote their accommodation scam, the same as the idea that the only
fair solution was to provide smoking and nonsmoking sections. Make no
mistake, any law that accommodates smokers allows people who don't smoke
to continue to be exposed ton dangerous secondhand smoke. All secondhand
cigarette smoke is dangerous. All cigarettes cause lung cancer and other
diseases. Providing bars for so called natural cigarettes allows smokers
to cheat and smoke tobacco that is not "natural." But that's irrelevant,
because all smoke should be banned from public places. There is already
sufficient scientific e vidence to require a total ban of smoking all
forms of tobacco and pot in all public places. Anything short of a total
ban only plays to the tobacco industry attempt to keep nicotine addicts
addicted to their lethal products.

P.S. Bob telphoned me this evening, and mentioned something interesting:
that tobacco likes to have individuals put a LOT of money up front for
these things, so that they have a lot to lose, etc. etc.
