Hi all--

today's "www.tobacco.org" site featured a nice selection of news media
accounts of the Wilmette Village Board's 6-1 vote to pass a smokefree ordinance in
virtually all public places (restaurants, bars, bowling alleys, etc).

Waht struck me about the Chicago area's news media accounts featured in
"www.tobacco.org" is that, by far, all use the term "smoking ban." However, this
term is unacceptable by public health advocates because it is the tobacco
industry's preferred term. The proper public health terminology is "smokefree
ordinance"--let's keep an eye on the use of the term in the local Champaign-Urbana
media, including WILL-AM radio, WILL TV, and the free weekly tabloids.

Cheers,

Theo
