Smoking ban in Scotland
Smokers in Scotland could have fewer chances to light up in public, if
legislation to outlaw smoking in restaurants and public buildings is passed.
Although the ban probably won't extend to pubs, because of a perceived lack
of support, establishments that serve food will probably be targeted. Both
the First Minister, Jack McConnell, and Nationalist parliament member,
Stewart Maxwell, agree that voluntary smoke-free zones don't work, and that
a ban on smoking is the best way forward. The success of a similar ban in
New York seems to be the encouragement that the non-smoking lobby needed.
