Hi Everyone : )

I am Billy, a 37 year old open source web developer, snowboarder and
raspberry pi hobbyist with very little practical experience building
wireless networks.

I do however plan to build one using Byzantium -
http://project-byzantium.org/. I have two goals -

1. Build and grow a Byzantium mesh network with friends in and around
Edinburgh (Scotland)
2. Develop and build a proto-type self powered weatherproof network routing
node.

I'm in no rush but hope that my early enthusiasm doesn't wane. I'm mainly
researching just now as my arm is in plaster but the possibility of an
alternative, free, self-powered and self-healing public network seems like
a no brainer. Must we, our kids and our kids, kids really pay BT, Branson,
Maxwell et all 30/month for a lifetime while our Government sells the air
around us for billions to sustain this cycle? This doesn't seem necessary
but maybe I've missed something fundamental; I certainly admit I have
little knowledge to offer and much/all to learn.

I hope this upstart 'noob' chat isn't disrepectful in anyway to your
community. I've joined the mailing list as I'm trying to learn as much as
possible and felt that, if possible, attending one of your events would be
an ideal place to do so.

I've sent this email as it seemed the polite thing to do.
