FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COORDINATE ALL AGES MUSIC FESTIVAL

On Saturday, November 15th, the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media
Center (IMC) Shows Group will be throwing All Ages Fest at the
Channing-Murray Foundation (1209 W. Oregon, Urbana) from
1pm-11pm. This festival, booked and organized primarily by volunteers
under 19, will be alcohol and smoke free and will be open to people of
all ages.

The festival will feature bands from throughout Illinois and Michigan:
Missing the Point, Jiggsaw, Ryefieldcrane, New Grenada, The Trembling,
Failed Resistance, Missing in Action, Vice Dolls, Kate Hathaway, MJ
Walker and Fictive Kin, Rory Miller, Ripley Caine, Jaik Willis, Gabe
Rosen, Finite Element, Darrin Drda's Theory Of Everything, and Aerin
Tedesco & Andrea Bunch. Music will be featured on a rock stage in the
Channing-Murray Chapel and an acoustic stage in the Red Herring
Vegetarian Restraunt downstairs. Food will be served during the
festival by The Red Herring Vegetarian Restraunt.

Organizing for All Ages fest has been spearheaded and coordinated by
Zoe Swords, age 14. Zoe has been involved with the IMC Shows group for
over a year. Through her involvement with the IMC she and several of
her peers have learned how to run a PA sound board and how to book and
promote concerts.

Until May 2003, the IMC Shows Group had a musical venue space of its
own in downtown Urbana. The group booked hundreds of shows during the
year that space was open. All of them were all ages and featured
nationally touring and local independent music. That space had to be
closed due to building code issues. Since May, the IMC Shows Group has
continued to book all ages shows at the Channing-Murray foundation and
other local venues.

In August 2003, the IMC Shows Group held a very successful fundraiser
at The Canopy Club with 16 bands and 2 feature films. Over $1600 were
raised at this event to support the ongoing efforts of the IMC Shows
Group and the IMC Capital Campaign. Because many young people were
unable to attend IMCfest because it was held at a bar, All Ages Fest
is being organized with support in part from the funds raised at
IMCfest.

The IMC Capital Campaign seeks to raise $100,000 for the purchase of a
permanent home for the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center. Such
a building purchase would be the first step towards creating a
permanent downtown all ages independent music and theatrical
performance space, art gallery, multimedia production facility, and
cultural resource center. To date the IMC has raised over $42,000
towards this goal.

The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (IMC) is a grassroots
organization committed to using media production and distribution as
tools for promoting social and economic justice in the
Urbana-Champaign area. We are dedicated to addressing issues that the
mainstream media neglects and we do not conceal our politics behind a
false objectivity. We will empower people to "become the media" by
providing democratic access to available technologies and information.
