Showing of Iraq Veterans Against the War "Winter Soldier II: Iraq and
Afghanistan" documentary on the March, 2008 event in Washington DC. This is
in the run-up to the *local* Winter Soldier event on U of I campus on Nov.
13th -- don't miss it! The film features testimony and interviews with
soldiers who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what
is happening on the ground. Panels of scholars, veterans, journalists and
others give context to the testimony, covering everything from the history
of the GI Resistance movement, to racism and dehumanization of the enemy, to
the fight for veterans' benefits.


Saturday, November 8th @ 8pm - UC-IMC Presents Paul Metzger, Tim Kaiser, and
Chris Hampson

Join us this Saturday night for a celebration of experimental, hand-made
instruments and eclectic performances.  We are happy to be hosting renowned
instrumentalists Paul Metzger and Tim Kaiser, who are currently on tour, and
the IMC's very own artist-in-residence, Chris Hampson.  Paul
Metzger<http://www.paulmetzger.net/>plays original compositions and
improvisations on 21-string banjo and
modified guitar (his own creations that incorporate drone strings, cymbals,
and music boxes) and Tim Kaiser <http://www.timkaiser.org/> is a performance
artist who designs a*nd builds his own electronic dev*ices and musical
instruments (seen at http://www.timkaiser.org/Sonic.html).
Champaign-Urbana's Chris Hampson will be performing an original audio-visual
composition using TV screens as sound-image generators.  Don't miss this
interesting evening of sight and sound at the Independent Media Center.
Doors open at 8pm; cover charge $5 to support the artists.
