 *Makerspace Urbana *
 *Joins the IMC*
Makerspace Urbana recently became the latest working group to join the IMC.
The Makerspace is a group dedicated to democratizing technology within the
Urbana-Champaign community by building an open, community-owned electronic
hardware and software lab within the IMC. We encourage radical product
design, cooperation, collaboration, sharing of ideas and the maker's spirit
among people in the community. To be a part of this effort, come to a
Makerspace meeting Wednesdays at 6:00p at the IMC.

More Volunteers = A More Successful IMC!

Success! 155.75 volunteer hours have been contributed to help maintain the
IMC building as of 01-20-2010.

The IMC has also secured a relationship between Cunningham Township and the
IMC that will provide a stead flow of volunteers over the year.

 *News from the
Guesundheit! Institute*

The Gesundheit! Institute is excited to be collaborating with the
Independent Media Center and local Healthcare experts to bring a night of
healthcare themed films to the IMC's annual film festival. This Healthcare
night will be *February 5th*. Features include two rarely screened
documentaries about the healthcare system, an introduction by a local
healthcare justice advocate, a talk-back following each film, and tons of
information about ways to get involved with Gesundheit! at a local and
national level. Never heard of the Gesundheit Institute? Need more
healthcare films to watch? Get yourself ready by watching Patch Adams, a
(highly fictional) account of the founder of the Institute. We can't wait
to see you there.

*FRIDAY! - Jan. 29th -Insurgent Theatre: Ulysses' Crewmen
Music by Mark Enslin*

A militant dissenter abuses her hostage from the US delegation while faintly
aware of the audience surrounding her. This claustrophobic scene creates a
space for radical introspection, defiant theatre and tactical conversations.
With only a few props, two actors, one of who is bound and gagged, and a
serious commitment to DIY politics, Insurgent Theatre refutes ancient dogmas
found in Homer's Odyssey and examines the psychosexual underpinnings of
empire and rebellion.

Starring Kate Pleuss and Ben Turk

Music by Mark Enslin will combine a shredded avant flamenco guitar piece,
Church Committee testimony with toys & percussion, and a wall of
idiosyncratic keyboard...

 *Bike Project Upcoming Events!**
*
*
Women's Night - Tuesday, January 5th from 6-9PM
*This event occurs the first Tuesday of the month. The first couple events
were a success so it will be continued into 2010.
Female, Trans, and Family TBP members and first time visitors are invited to
participate in a welcoming and nearly testosterone free co-op.
Winter is a perfect time for tuning up and overhauling your bike. If you
are riding through the winter TBP volunteers have lots of tips on how to
stay warm and safe.*

Bike Fit Clinic* - Sunday, January 31st from 2-3PM
A short bike fit clinic will be provided by member and Crow Dog bike fit
business owner Karen Partlow. If you're looking to buy a bike, the size of
the bike is the first detail you will need.

*TBP Staffed hours will be open as per usual*. See the website for the
latest open hours (www.thebikeproject.org).

*Member DIY Hours Suspended until Spring*
The expanded Member DIY hours are being discontinued until it warms back up
so that the hours will be more utilized.
In the meantime we will be refocusing the TBP Americorp Volunteer on
starting up a youth Earn-a-Bike Program.

Member DIY Hours were in addition to the regular staffed hours. Regular
Staffed Hours are still in effect and have not been discontinued.

 ------------------------------
*Public i and WRFU Fundraiser *
The Public i and WRFU held a joint potluck fundraiser at the Clark Bar on
January 25th. Thanks to everyone who came out and brought a dish despite
the dreary weather! If you were not able to come and make a contribution to
the two groups
bringing you local indymedia, it's not too late to contribute online (
http://www.ucimc.org/content/donate-uc-imc) or in person at 202 S. Broadway.

 *Community Calendar*
Check the UC-IMC website (ucimc.org) for a new, detailed, month-to-month
calendar of progressive and cultural events going on in the Urbana-Champaign
area. Looking ahead to February: film screenings, lectures and potlucks, oh
my!
