[Imc-makerspace] Community Connections communication proposal

Dear UCIMC working groups,

While working on recent projects, we at community connections wanted
to make contact with working groups through your appropriate
listservs. However, this got complicated- in addition to the
irritation of needing to type them all in, it has been brought to our
attention that messages to lists are often caught in moderation or not
approved. So, we're proposing a solution that may also benefit your
group by improving communication between working groups and associated
groups.

We are proposing that a single UCIMC email account be created for each
group and used by each working group/UCIMC building organization as a
shared, inter-group communication mechanism.
-- Each group would identify one listserv which would be appropriate
to receive occasional "Announce" emails from all other groups,
-- A "master list" such as IMC-ALL would be created, which would be a
list of lists- sending an email to it would send an email to all
official working group lists
-- each group would get an email (e.g. communityconnections at ucimc.org)
that would be approved on these lists. This account could be accessed
by current working group spokespersons and used on occasion when it's
important to give notice to all groups on a topic.
-- These emails would be the only accounts allowed to post to IMC-ALL

Messages sent by these addresses would be used for "official" UCIMC
communications.
One example of the need for this is communications relating to the
monthly Steering Group meeting. Another would be an emergency building
announcement or request. Yet another example is to communicate about
an event or project that seeks collaboration with all working groups-
such as the Open House.

Please let us know your thoughts on this proposal. If there are no
objections, please let us know the most appropriate list to receive
such emails- it should be one that is checked regularly by responsive
members/spokes and if you would like an email address for similar
communications from your working group.

We are hoping to hear back from you by July 26, 2010.

Best regards,
Chris R., Community Connections
