Greetings:

I wanted to make you all aware of Intel’s recent announcement of providing
50,000 free boards to universities based on our new Quark chip. The board
is called Galileo and it is Arduino based. This board is targeted to the
education and maker communities. This is a pretty exciting opportunity for
us and represents a new level of engagement for Intel and the education
community.

Boards can be ordered here: http://galileodonation.intel.com/

I would like to ask that you send this out to the various departments on
campus that could take advantage of this opportunity (engineering; CS;
Design; Maker labs; etc.). The application does not ask for a board
quantity amount but I would like to suggest that the applicants reference
the number of boards they will need in the box titled “Please explain how
you will use the boards.” There is no limit on the number of boards that
can be requested as long as there is a good use for them.

If possible, I would also like to ask you to send this to your corporate
relations office (if there is one) and copy me so I can ask them to roll up
all the requests for the university separately and forward it to me so I
can work with our team to get the boards allocated. This is not needed to
get the boards ordered but it will help me to track the requests so they do
not get lost in the process.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about this
program.

-John-

The 32-bit Quark chip in Galileo is based on an x86 Pentium design and runs
at a clock speed of 400MHz. It has 512KB of RAM. Other key Galileo features
include 256MB DRAM, 8MB flash, a micro-SD connector slot, a 100Mbps (bits
per second) ethernet port, a mini PCI-Express slot, a USB 2.0 port and a
RS-232 serial port.
