dear news working group--
kimberlie kranich, the outside programming liason for the weft programming
committee, has announced publicly that the programming committee is taking
proposals for the open times for the monday 6-7pm slot. this is the time
that we have been offering the imc news hour. the programming committee
granted us custody of the slot through july, and we have feature topics
and main producers scheduled through that time.

sascha has suggested we propose to continue the imc news hour through the
remaining times until the ymca friday forum starts up again, that is 6
open shows through september 10.

I'd like to echo sascha's suggestion. while we can make a formal decision
before our next meeting on sunday, i'd like to know whether we can
announce informally at tomorrow's weft programming committee meeting that
we plan to apply.

paul riismandel offered to be weft liason for us even though he's not
working with the news group. (daniele decided not to, and it would be
awkward for me or sehvilla to do that since we are both on the programming
committee.)

the feature topics I can forsee as doable:

interview Dennis Grammenos on current situation in Colombia (he's a
geography professor in chicago who was a mainspring for colombia
solidarity activism in CU while he was a student, and publishes a thorough
daily news service on Colombia as well as the Colombia Labor Monitor).

Update on activism in St. Louis (there was a Monsanto action there
recently; I know several people who are active there)

Report on meeting at the gesundheit institute (free silly hospital project
in west virginia) with Jim Hightower that I will be at in late July

anti-globalizatin activism in Genoa, Italy (idea discussed at last
meeting)

...that's four ideas. Any others? Any objections to applying for
continuing the newshour? Also there's a strong chance that the weft
programming committee will be interested in knowing whether the imc would
want to do a show in the fall at a different time...

The weft programming committee meets every 2nd and 4th thursday at 7pm.
