In addition to Avram's offer to do training on Mondays from 6 to 8, Peter
and I also hashed out a proposal for a more formal training session.
Here's a draft.

IMC Citizen Journalist Training Series

Tired of unreliable reporting from media who are more concerned with
selling advertising than getting the story right? Then it's time to take
matters into your own hands.

Learn the basic skills needed to become a reporter during the Urbana
Independent Media Center's Spring 2002 Citizen Journalist Training Series.
You'll learn how to report on a civic event and publish it on the IMC
website. You'll learn how to use the IMC's digital cameras to document
events and show the world what happened. You'll learn the keys to audio
recording, digital editing, story production, and publishing your work on
the world wide web, making your material available to broadcasters around
the world.

Trainings will be hands-on, with each class intended to be self-contained
and end with news that you gathered actually being published. The IMC's
audio and video recording and editing resources will be available to all
participants.

The first class in this six-part series begins on March 18 with an
introduction to news writing.

Take the news into your own hands. Sign up early by calling the Urbana
IMC at 217-344-8820. Or contact Michael Feltes at mfeltes at ucimc.org
