producers... please read it over and let him know if you're interested in
helping with this project.

Subject: My trip comes to my end, but our work does not . . .

Hello everybody!

I can't tell you how happy I am with how this trip has come off. I have
been able to go to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Gaza Strip,
Ramallah and finally made it on Tuesday night to Jenin. Jenin and the Gaza
Strip were definitely amongst the most interesting parts of the trip, as
yesterday I scored an interview with the head of Hamas in the Jenin
refugee camp (which meant literally risking my life, of course, as this
guy is wanted dead or alive by the Israeli occupying military which was
spotted in the camp "looking" for him only days before I interviewed him
last night). Jenin also featured interviews with the families of the
victims of both civlians and the resistance fighters who passed during
last month's invasions. A range of folks were caught on tape here, ranging
from teary eyed interviewees, to indignant yelling elderly woman who lost
her house (interviewed in front of the rubble of her house, in fact), to a
veteran Palestinian activist who has been to jail six times and has lost
at least four family members to the occupying forces. Today, when I
returned to Jerusalem, I caught up with Jeff Halper, the director of the
Israeli Commitee Against Housing Demolitions. Also, there were interviews
with Palestinian HR workers, Palestinian medical workers, Palestinian
families in the Gaza Strip (including a woman whose nephew went into a
military base in the territories, killed two soldiers and was shot and
subsequently tortured to death), live footage of ammunition firing and
F16's flying overhead . . . I am telling you guys, there's a rich amount
of material to work with here.

And I am dead serious about working with it. I would like to make a full
length (1 to 2 hour) radio documentary and try and distribute it
internationally. I have contacts to get the documentary translated into
Spanish so we can even dip into Latin America with this. Really, I am big
time excited about the prospects with this and I want your help and
experience (especially, I am speaking to the folks at the UC-IMC here, who
have had experience producing documentaries - i.e. on Quebec City).

Unfortunately, none of you have responded to my request for us to all get
together sometime between the 27th and 31st / or between the 2nd and 4th.
I think we should probably do it in Urbana-Champaign, being that the folks
down there have made a radio documentary before and perhaps there are more
potential participants down there, but maybe Chicago would be better. What
do we think? Are we all, those that are receing this e-mail interested in
participating (I know at least Chris is, as he answered as much)?

The first thing participating would involve is having you guys listen to
nearly all the footage. I am going to take the responsibility of logging
all of it, but will you guys be willing to listen to most of it so that we
can begin the arduous task of making a radio documentary? I hope so
because I am really excited about the possibilities here.

I will have an e-mail out to all of you with the complete log of the raw
footage by the afternoon, as well as access to the footage beginning
Friday afternoon as well. I suppose by Saturday afternoon we should have
all the footage FTP'ed to that handy UC-IMC site (thanks again for that,
Cliff). This is assuming that Chris will be available to upload the stuff
along with me starting on Friday afternoon (is that the case Chris? look
for my numbers below and please give me a call Friday morning between
9:45am and 11:00am, if you can).

Alright all, that's it for now. Am SUPER excited about all of this and I
hope you guys will have the time and interest to help me out in this
endeavor.

Oh, and one more thing, forward this to any and all lists of possible
interested parties (especially in Chicago and Urbana-Champaign, but
perhaps beyond as well).
