Paul,
I fairly certain that recording devices are not allowed in the courts in Illinois. You do want to ask beforehand if you still want to try, as I'm certain the judge would consider this to be some form of contempt of court. I realize that since you wrote this it has become clear this is only a prelimianry hearing, but I thought it was important to note this for other enterprising IMC reporters.
