Subject: Pitches for July shows

Hi.

We’re still accepting pitches for July's shows. When pitching, please
follow the pitching guidelines (see below). Your pitch should have a
good description of what you want to cover, why it should be covered,
and potential interviewees.

Title: [International Internet Activism]
----->>>>> Script Deadline: July 2, 2003
Description: What is the role of international electronic activism?
Sometimes it can have unintended results if cultural norms aren't
carefully evaluated when launching a campaign. Other times it can be a
powerful tool to mobilize people. Some of the topics we’ll be looking
at: a human rights campaign which may be hindering a case in Nigeria,
the success of internet activism in South Korea.
Note: We're looking for story ideas and a segment. We have some tape on
digital divide issues, but are open to pitches on this topic as well.

Title: "Preparation of Church and State: The Christian Right and Public
Policy"
----->>>>> Script Deadline: July 16, 2003
Description: In many ways the constitutionally mandated separation
between church and state has been faltering. President Bush has pushed
numerous faith-based initiatives and has paved the way for religious
organizations to receive federal funding. But the agenda goes much
further. Many Christian Right leaders have said that they've
essentially won the White House with Bush in office. What are some of
the political, social , and cultural implications?
Note: We're looking for a policy piece about the Faith Based and
Community Initiatives with stories that dramatize the changes in hiring
practices or shifts in accessibility of services. We're also interested
in hearing from religious minorities their perspectives on the
Initiatives.

Title: "Polluting People: Chemicals, the Environment, and Our Bodies"
----->>>>> Script Deadline: July 30, 2003
Description: We are bombarded with chemicals, many of which we don't
know the long-term effects on human health. The U.S. government
registers about 2000 newly synthesized chemicals each year, adding to
the tens of thousands of chemicals that are already in use. What's in
our food, our cosmetics, our clothing, air, water, land? And how are we
affected? On this edition of Making Contact we take a look at these
questions. Making Contact's Aimee Pomerleau looks at a study by the
Environmental Working Group that randomly selected 9 adult Americans and
found 167 chemicals, pollutants, and pesticides in their bodies.
note: We are looking for story ideas or segment, specific examples of
health impacts from chemicals we can find in our every day lives.

Here are a some of the other shows we’re producing in the Fall (see
previous emailing or contact me for a more complete description.)
Title: [The FCC, Free Speech, and Media Consolidation]
Title: [Ecotourism]
Title: [Logging in Malaysia]
Title: [Our Oceans]

***Pitch Guidelines***
To pitch a story, write a one or two paragraph description; include
potential interviewees. Making Contact is not a news program and focuses
primarily on underlying economic, social and political issues. Stories
should avoid time-dating and should be relevant a minimum of 3 months
after broadcast. Before pitching a story, be familiar with the mission
of NRP, as posted on our website (www.radioproject.org) or ask for a
hard copy. In making your pitch, please consider the following
questions:
* Does the story relate public interests to governmental policies and
corporate priorities?
* Does the story give listeners a historical, political, or social
context of major national and
       international events?
* Does the story shed light on social and economic inequities?
* Does the story link grassroots issues to national or international
trends?

For Submission Guidelines, please visit our website
(www.radioproject.org).

Thanks, Aimee
