Hey, I just discovered this CROSS-PLATFORM sound editing software that's a 
possible alternative to Sound Forge.  It runs windoze, MacOS and Linux, and 
might therefore be a great way to train people on audio editing that will 
most easily allow them to use whatever machine we have available.

It's called Audacity.  Here's the website: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

The new audio editing machine has an install of Mandrake on it--maybe 
someone (Travas?) could compile and install it? I can do a windoze install 
on that machine.

Brian, would you give it an install on Sergei so we can all try it out?
