(I am not responding to the imc list, but just to the imc-tech list.)

All these instructions! Need it be so complicated?

Why not swap C: and D: drives so that the installation wizards will do
the right thing without user intervention? Seems to me you achieve a
fairer division of labor between person and machine that way: the machine
installs by rote on C: drive, and the user concerns herself with non-rote
decisions in the install process.

In system administration, computer programming, and most things involving
computers, strive to delegate rote decisions (that is, decisions that do
not involve higher reasoning or conscience) to the computer. Otherwise,
you get into situations where people serve the machines, or serve those
who "keep" the machines.

I do not know what to do about the E: drive. In a user-friendly operating
system, every disk would have a bandwidth rating, and every file would
be labeled by the programs that used it with the bandwidth that the
programs required. Then, every file would be stored on whichever disk
could best accomodate its bandwidth labels. No more drive distinctions
for the users of that OS! =)
