I'm cc-ed the UCIMC's Tech Working Group since they'd know the answers to your
questions. Thus far we haven't seen any problems with the new install (in fact,
it's reduced our spam from an average of 800+ day to less than 1) and has
greatly improved our stability. My understanding from talking with folks is
that we were able to stick with a fairly standard Drupal install (which a couple
hacks) -- one goal we have is to make the code available to folks if there's
interest in using it on other Indymedia websites.

Some early documentation is available here:
http://www.ucimc.org/node/8

With more extensive information here:
http://www.ucimc.org/wiki/index.php/Drupal_Migration

The plan is to provide a step-by-step guide and find other Indymedia techies
that would like to take the UCIMC's work to the next level. If there's another
IMC out there that would like to make the switch, I'm sure our folks would be
more than willing to draft up step-by-step instructions for them to make the
upgrade. Since the CMS discussion was ongoing, and we _really_ needed something
to stop the spam, our team decided to take immediate action. It's now been up
since September (see: http://www.ucimc.org/node/15), so we feel that it's been
tested out enough to be fully implementable by other IMCs.

Just let us know,
