In case we have things that need proper disposal:

Free Electronics Recycling Event

In 2011, the City of Urbana is co-sponsoring quarterly collection events for
old or unwanted electronic items. The next event will be held on Saturday,
May 21 at the News-Gazette Distribution Center, 3202 Apollo Drive, Champaign
from 8am to Noon. Items to be collected include: computers, monitors,
printers and other computer peripherals; televisions, VCR and DVD players,
and video game consoles; telephones and audio equipment; and microwave ovens
. Items not accepted include refrigerators, stoves and other large
appliances; toasters, blenders and other small kitchen appliances; air
conditioners; vacuum cleaners; fans; and lamps. Participants are
limited to drop
off of ten items maximum. Volunteers will be on-hand to do all unloading of
electronics.

The collection will be held rain or shine. Other event sponsors include
Champaign County, City of Champaign, and Village of Savoy. Other 2011
events are scheduled for August 6 and October 29.

Illinois residents should be aware that, starting January 1, 2012, certain
electronic items will be banned from Illinois landfills - specifically
computers, monitors, printers and televisions. Please take advantage of
2011 collection events to avoid future disposal problems. Efforts are
ongoing, locally and statewide, to determine more sustainable
electronics recycling
solutions for 2012 and beyond.
