[Imc-web-editor] Re: RFU Accounts

Thanks for agreeing to help out with this.

Our main concern at the moment is that we would get a repeat of the
incident a few weeks ago where a blog entry was posted to the site,
highlighting a case of a man accused of sexual assault, purportedly
from his partner, and it attracted various abusive comments. We
eventually got a mail, again purportedly from the partner (though from
a different email address) claiming that the comments were upsetting
her, and she wanted the blog entry taken down, which I then did.

Two concerns arise:
* Abusive comments in response to blog posts or other articles. There
is no call for these. The site currently allows anonymous comments,
and I'm loathe to get rid of this, as it may dissuade casual innocuous
comments on show-related posts.
* The WRFU blog posting facility is designed for use by members to
post material related to their shows or the station. As such, it is
not a general news site - we already have the IMC site for that. We
don't have established rules or guidelines yet, but entries from those
who obviously have no relationship to the station deviate from what we
expect from the site. We should develop guidelines for this (but don't
currently have a working group ourselves to deal with it - I expect it
would come under outreach when that is reactivated).

I'd appreciate if the web group can use their common sense in dealing
with situations they notice on the WRFU site that relate to the two
issues above. I'm happy to arbitrate on any unclear cases you come
across - just forward me a link. I'm going to inform the membership of
the arrangement at our meeting on Tuesday, and hope that we can get
internal structures in place soon to deal with this and/or work with
the IMC web group on general web issues.
