Err, I'm not sure what you mean.  Images are showed in their original
size for articles (unless they surpass a maximum size, in which case
they are downsized.)  For features a thumbnail is created in the
backend and used.  Ditto for the media gallery's random thumbnail on
the front page, and the media gallery browsing page.

The only exception is for .gifs; due to the LWZ patent, we can't
legally resize gif's.

Where are you seeing <img> sizes that don't match the size of the
picture?
