It covers an ongoing labor dispute between the building service and food 
service workers, represented by SEIU, and the UIUC administration. As in 
many of its dealings with labor in the last few years, the University 
has engaged in stalling tactics and frequently refused to bargain in 
good faith with those who do the work that provides education for some 
40,000 students. As a strike looms in the face of one last try at 
federal mediation, various other sectors of the University have risen up 
to express their solidarity with their fellow workers. This struggle has 
received superficial coverage in the local media, much of it from the 
administration's point of view.
