THE WTO
The World Trade Organization (WTO), the world's most powerful legislative
body, will be holding a ministerial summit in Seattle, Washington, from
November 29, 1999, through December 3, 1999. This meeting promises to
shape the rules of the global economy for decades to come. The WTO, a
non-elected and undemocratic power, has already begun to set the terms for
national and transnational legislation, subverting the rights of workers,
negating the power of democratic elections, and undermining smaller
economic communities around the world.

OUR TRIP TO THE PROTEST
Seventeen students, teachers, and activists from Champaign-Urbana's School
for Designing a Society are headed to Seattle that same week to join in a
seven-day festival of active resistance. This series of marches,
protests, performances, and acts of civil disobedience against the WTO and
its policies will be attended by activists from around the globe.

thank you,
