[Newspoetry] Julia Butterfly of suburbia

I am in a tree
my tree, apple
out on a limb
it's shaky

Illinois Power
that fire-breathing mouthpiece
of white male corporate oppression
wants to chop it off,
apples and all

hold me, tree
I know you're new growth
and all, and your apples are
a pain to rake up into
yard waste bags,
but it's not your fault
they put that power line
here

I've been up here
for over two
hours. I'm a little
peckish. The
electromagnetic field
is causing me to have
visions

I see myself falling
eight feet into
my flowerbed
my head splintering
on the garage gutter

an apple glancing
off the power line
and onto my forehead
10,000 volts of apple
juice arc spark

protect this limb
move your dang power line
or at least give me a coupon
or something. Geez.
