This poem is in reaction to the news coverage of the elementary school
shooting over
10 years ago in Winnetka, Illinois.

REMINISCENES OF LAURIE DANN AND NICHOLAS CORWIN

I thought that
In this country,
Most of the violent crime
Is done by
Males.
But Laurie Dann
Changed all that.
Laurie Dann--
(His name coming as if it is someone from the Wild West)
The lady
Who sent one elementary school
In Winnetka, Illinois,
A northern suburb of Chicago---
Down on its knees
In a blaze of...
GUNFIRE!!!

When I saw the
TV news coverage,
I was saddened
When the news released
Pictures of
Nicholas Corwin...
That's right...Nicholas Corwin,
Who was the only fatality
In Laurie's shooting rampage.
The news said that Nicholas was a very gifted boy.
And even with only one fatality,
It makes me so sad
Because an innocent person was brutally
KILLED!!!
I grieve for him
I long for him;
Hence, I will never forget
Nicholas Corwin.
