* write a short story in which the main character is an article in a
newspaper.

* rewrite a well-known poem as a supreme court decision.

* find a news story based on a sound bite.  reduce the story to a
sound bite and expand the sound bite into an essay complete with
references and charts.

* trace the source material for a news story (often a report issued by
some policy organization or other kind of think tank) and write a poem
made out of quotes from that source.

* write a fable which explains why we have Time *and* Newsweek.
