america's motto

the state of ohio has missed the point
they defend their motto with a correct (albeit irrelevant) claim
that their motto means the same thing
as "in God we trust"
america's motto

the american civil liberties union has missed the point
they refute the motto with a false (albeit relevant) claim
that the motto endorses christianity by quoting jesus
unlike "in God we trust"
america's motto

jesus aside
both parties base their argument on a perpetuated falsehood:
the validity of
america's motto

in this nation of religious freedom
where "in God we trust" is stamped on every piece of money
we're free to be theist
or atheist
and people take this for granted
attempting to move beyond
the oppression
of the built-in endorsement from
america's motto
