KABUL 11/13/01


in kabul, they are shaving off their beards and flying kites

digging up buried televisions and vcrs

listening to music for the first time in years

the taliban have literally headed for the hills

(an environment where they can survive supremely well)

who could denounce the celebrations?

who will weep over the taliban's fall?

but the question still nags

like a persistent collection officer

why are only "hundreds" dancing in the street

in a city of over one million?
