The postmistress hands me a book of available stamps.
Despairingly I turn the pages of
  statues of liberty
     flags
        stars
            and then...

CARNIVOROUS PLANTS!

Venus flytrap's vulva holds a butterfly
Yellow trumpets gorge on flies
A cobra lily snakes death downward

The joy of my narrow escape
could yet be overshadowed?
The oracle reveals:

"We sell more of those than any of the others"

Jumping back from the counter, I attempt a triple pirouette
I get two and a half. Ah well.

My postmistress is confused, she can't grasp
that my fellow citizens are choosing life,
   in all its grotesque glory

In private choices
not judged by shoppers or the guy in the next lane
they know what I know

flags make us uneasy
flags mean too much
  and too little
but flesh eating plants ROCK
