Violence

This casino has no 13th floor
but if it did my room would be on it,
and my luck would be no different.

News channels share the dial
with aging instructional video loops
on how to play blackjack.

On Channel 11 from San Fransisco
the news is falling all over itself
to report on the latest shootings in Oakland.

The violence, they intone,
continues to mount, as nearly one hundred
people have been shot.

When we invade Iraq
they will not call it violence,
although well over one hundred
people will be shot.
