[Newspoetry] Seeing Things, the liberal truth

Today's news reports a bun was stolen,
from a restaurant that had discovered
a likeness of Saint Teresa on its crust,
in the flaky folds of a battered pastry,
and held the object out a sacred token,
shellacking it, reproducing its image,
for the mage of the eye sees things
and imagines some cosmic connection
lies between the holy and the profane.

Ever this wizardry works its wonders,
seeing things embedded in other things,
ever this accidental association stands
as the truest way of intelligent design,
that things have such patterns imbued
as intention of their form to manifest,
to stand out against mere materialism,
in a display of animation's living sign,
that knows no power exceeds the will
of a soul that exceeds its carnal case.

Ink blots, you might say, have a truth
that is the same as clouds in the sky,
leaves of tea from swirling formations,
etchings of hoary frost on glass panes,
it's all out there, around us everywhere,
these messages from infinite divinities,
who scrawl their newspoems in tracings
of the dust that settles else randomly.

Brownian principles explain blindness,
why we might be willing to see nothing,
because chaos is easier to understand
as the underlying principle of systems,
than to believe that some field exists,
causing motes to align in certain ways,
to destine myriad structuring forms,
all always there, implicit, seeing things.

How was it, when first mind thought,
perhaps without any great reflection,
I am seeing things I never saw before,
memory supplies forms by which to see
that the unfamiliar is like the known,
and it could not see any of what is,
except by a given idea of what was,
itself no longer ever present now,
except in the echoes of my recall.

How many centuries, or millennia,
passed before that mind thought,
I can see into the future as well,
by knowing nothing there shall be
that is not already here with me,
but in disguises of other relations,
waiting to enter into reorganization,
like chemicals in balancing equations,
the left of the past transforms into
the right of the future completely.

A scary thought: that left becomes right,
that it is only a matter of time's process,
before every liberal looks conservative,
and every conservative looks liberal.
I'd rather believe in one-way changes,
that liberalism must be exogenously given,
disappearing into absorbing conservatism,
for I can not see liberalism's sources,
it appears ex nihil as God's very creation,
the supplement of the evolving world,
the thing that pushes forward evolution,
the thing that pushes forward time,
pushing form into reformations,
and there is no way to explain God's way,
as to why He creates so liberally me,
to be creating new things from old ones.
