Leading Cardinal Redefines Church's View on Evolution
By CORNELIA DEAN and LAURIE GOODSTEIN

To theology, it shouldn't really matter whether evolution is planned (guided) or merely some form of randomness.

Here's why: if God is god, then it doesn't matter at all to religion what form any of the animals have --- even the form of man himself really doesn't matter -- except that we have always prided ourselves, as a species, as being of the form of God.

But, once you start thinking about the form of God, you realize that about everything would have his form, in some sense of the word, because he contains all possibilities within his limitless and unbounded self. Leibniz called an idea like this by the terrific sounding name of "best of all possible worlds." Whatever form man ended up having, that would be the form of god, so far as man is concerned.

And, anyway, the form of man doesn't matter, at all, in the physical sense -- because god is not any kind of physical being, bounded and limited by a universe he made that contains him. (It'd be like a set theorem dilemma, the set of all sets that contains all those sets that are less (in some sense) than itself -- so no set contains god -- but he might then be a limit set, if we were looking to minimalist descriptions of such bounds.)

The form of man, in short, when the Bible talks of it, is nothing physical -- because it is linked to the form of god, who himself is nothing physical.

in a theological sense, god gives mankind soul -- but soul never evolves, as a substance, because soul lacks all material character as a substance.

What we do know is that soul is thus only a potentiality, a possibility of being -- perhaps of being like god. Soul is not guaranteed to any person, as to its being actualized, during the course a life in an ever evolving cultural medium.

Some people, like Bush or the Cardinal, for instance, are born with souls that never become alive -- they become, instead, corrupted by various kinds of materialisms. the materialism of the mother church in Rome is a perfect example of such corruption of the soul. If jesus had wanted a crown to wear, and robes flowing down, and palaces where the rich, the high and mighty congregate, why he would have done something similar -- instead of resisting the temptations in the wilderness.

Soul does not evolve -- corruption by materialism is an old story. The fact that such warped forms ever wear the dark faces of earthly power and dictate what truth is proves that no evolution of the soul may happen.
