Why conservatism is rising and ruling America.

My HomeTown, wasting away

In the little town of Fairfield,
down on prairie, hidden from view,
where the land is mostly flat dirt,
except when it washes away into mud,
and flows down rivers to Louisiana,
going south physically.

Fairfield has long headed south,
from little Egypt in deep Illinois,
politically back-sliding away,
ever deeper into yawning depths,
not of hell, but of slothfulness,
thinking of nothing.

Glance at the local radio guide,
and you see the featured talks:
der Limbaugh M-F 1 to 4 pm...
balanced by Paul Harvey briefings,
M-Sat, 7:40 & 11:40 Am;, M-F @ 2 PM,
topped off, fairly, on Sunday night,
by the Drudge Report, 9 to midnite.

No chance of a dissenting opinion,
not here on the smallest of radios,
the broad counties of a narrow land,
play only songs of a one-man band,
making media owner FOXX happy.

The answer to why Johnny can't reason
is that he has never heard the truth,
and so he thinks Bush is right,
that the liberals dominate the news,
just because the New York Times
tries to be honest or objective.

It is a woeful thing,
this willful ignorance,
this reason why Kansas prefers myths,
concoctions brewed from tales of death,
instead of living in the light,
living in freedom from fear,
those who make us fearful,
those who make us hateful,
those who make us dead.
