In this, our Democratic Republic,
how is a Legislature to do its job,
if it can not hear honest testimony
of those who make up its employees,
present, former, even prospective?

Nominees for Judgeships decline to talk,
on grounds their speech is not required:
we are not entitled to know their views,
before putting them in policy positions,
where their views are all that matters.

Executives maintain a right to hide
all activities they don't want out,
by classification, of "top secret",
asserting by mere bureau rule itself
a lawful barrier to our over-sight:
a legislature has no right to see
as it lacks access to our secrets.

Executive construe dust to construct
bare fabrication: Executive privilege,
as if an Executive may shelter and hide,
any matters it wishes not to disclose.

Contrary to a democratic republicanism
are such pretensions of those in power,
as clerical aides of sovereign people,
whose chief is the ruling legislature,
but never those executives nor judges.
