The Great Liar

Bush says he has learned the lessons of history,

from the day of 9/11, and will not forget them.

A one-day course of history? A one day wonder!

Imagine that, all of history, framed in a single day.

An epic of Greek tragedy, indeed, such hubris.

What was it that you learned, Mr. Bush?

That you shouldn't play politics with national security?

No. You chose to do that, to divide this free nation.

That you shouldn't exaggerate threats to us, the people?

No. You chose to do that to wipe out political opponents.

That you shouldn't pursue people who pose no threat to us?

No. You chose to invade Iraq, spewing a heap of lies.

That terrorism has two faces - one of which threatens us?

No. You chose to treat all terrorism as the same thing.

That threatening terrorists wanted us bogged down in land war?

No. You bogged us down in Iraq, just as their play book hoped.

That you can't inspire freedom by freely dropping bombs?

No. You chose to do that, and continue to practice unjust war.

That you can't build a democracy on the points of bayonets?

No. You sanction torture and call for the abuse of prisoners.

That you are the most morally confused president in history?

No. You listen to amoral Rumsfeld, Rice, Rove, Cheney, et. al.

That you are not to proclaim yourself Ceasar, Kaiser, Tsar?

No. You daily corrupt the Constitution and the Rule of Law.

No. You assert that a president can do what he wishes.

No. You daily show that a Republic can be ended by fiat.

And, then, you, too, you daily corrupt history and language,

Trying to liken Islamic militancy to the evils of "fascism",

Trying to hide the very history of "fascism" itself,

That your regime's military imperialism so much resembles.

No. Mr. Bush, you do not resemble at all Hitler -

You're not that smart, nor that evil, nor even good at speech.

You're Mussolini reborn - a pompous and bragging idiot,

Practicing all sorts of evil, in the name of personal glory.

Daily, you lie, unthinkingly, and all your history is a lie.

Is that a lesson of 9/11, Mr. Bush, that you never learn?

The question isn't your learning ability, Mr. Bush.

It's whether Americans have learned you are the Great Liar,

Perhaps unwitting, perhaps truly just too much of an idiot,

But always trying to look as pompous as a sham Mussolini.

The Greeks said it well, when saying "Know Thyself",

But, have you ever studied the subject of you, Mr. Bush,

to learn from your own mistakes in world and US history,

courses that you have failed to master, in a one-day study?
