My right brain says "yes",
but my left one keeps saying "no",
and I am speechless, between,
in listening to their debate.
(Forebrain, hindbrain, midbrain all agree:
I am trapped water in a plugged up drain.)
One hand does not know
what the other is doing.
It is clapping.
(But which one is it, I inquire?)
What is the other hand doing?
It's got a bird in it.
I could talk to myself,
in fact, when-if I talk,
it is always to me,
though I imagine you,
I can not reach you,
by Cartesian-descent,
reverberating me,
for you are not inside me,
never could have been.
To get my voice to you,
or to God (how alike you are!),
I must project it, project me,
become a ghost of myself,
a Voice walking in Eden, perhaps,
looking for a matching pair
in the deck of possibilities.
God met none His equal.
He sighed, "Someday,
I'm going to find Her,
Miss Right-For-Me,
and make Her Mrs. God."
The Universe rumbles,
while He waits for Her,
talking on stage alone,
monological She.

After thought:
God does NOT play dice with universe -
Nope, he plays Texas-hold-'em.

Mules.
My high school's mascot,
down deep in Fairfield Illinois,
and the State of Missouri's mascot,
a tribute to stubborn persistence,
to strength of back and will.

A mule will kick you in the head,
or in the ass, when you are one,
or nip and bite at you,
when you are a fool:
Unlike a pretty horse,
you can not ride a mule
until it drops dead from effort.

The value of mules
is next to land in family values:
"40 Acres and a Mule" once
were enough to make a life,
for self and family.

The other Biblical animal,
besides a snake and man, to talk
was Balaam's ass or mule:
telling seer-man: "You are a fool,
blind and dumb of truth,
and thus wrongly obstinate."
